Photo by jez.atkinsonOh man, the Dream Meanings series is going to be a doozie. There are literally thousands of possible dream meanings interpretations. I’m going to try and cover some of the more well established dream meanings and try to do that in as little space as possible.
The first dream meanings scenarios I would like to cover are Accidents. These are by far the most uncomfortable type of dream as they can leave you waking in a pool of sweat. But they may not all mean exactly what they appear. So even though you may awaken suddenly and intensely, be sure to take note of what ever you can remember as we discussed in The Stages of Sleep and What Dreams are Made Of.
Traditionally dream meanings for accidents are centered around the possibility that you’re being given a warning of possible danger. They may also tell you to be alert for any danger or hidden aggression that may be coming your way. These are more well known as physical interpretations.
Spiritual interpretations may suggest that some kind of intervention from an authoritative source is needed.
According to Sigmund Freud dreams are no accident at all, rather we have them as an unconscious way of unraveling or dealing with issues in our daily lives. In fact dream meanings dealing with accidents are said to foretell explanations of things our unconscious mind has taken note of, but our conscious mind failed to notice.
For instance, what if you had a dream that someone was killed at a certain cross walk. Then it came to pass. The theory suggests that you unconsciously noticed how dangerous this particular cross walk is and may of read something in passing about the growing dangers on that road due to people not paying attention. All this adds up to your dream of this accident being a foresight into the future. But was it really?
Dream Meanings of Major Accidents
Dream Meanings for the Dreamer having an Accident
If you have a dream that you yourself has an accident of some sort, then you should jot down any information you can remember about this dream. This is especially important if the accident involved something that you use on a daily basis, like a bicycle or your car.
A good practice in a situation like this would be to perform maintenance on what ever your dream told you was going to be dangerous. Maintenance is a good idea anyway, so it couldn’t hurt to give something a once over just to make sure you avoid the dangers from your dream.
Another scenario could be that you dream of getting hit by a car while running across the street to speak with someone you plan to cheat on your spouse with. Dream meanings for things like this could be showing pent-up guilt, as you know this is the wrong thing to do. So either you’re telling yourself this is a dangerous act, or by committing the adultery it could lead to further accidents.
Other common dream meanings for having a car accident in your dreams is that the dream is trying to tell you to slow down in life. That maybe you are going on a destructive path by pushing yourself too hard. A good course of action would be to re-evaluate your circumstances and maybe find a plan for taking care of business in a less stressful way. Stress can lead to massive heart attacks and sickness as we’ve discussed before. So a car wreck in your dream may be telling you you are going to become fatally ill if you continue on the same path.
Pay close attention to the people involved in the dream. In the end did you manage to find refuge somewhere, or did you rescue someone else. This could be telling you where you need to go or who is in need of your help.
Dream Meanings of Accidents in the Home
Having dreams of accidents in the home may mean that tension is building in your home environment. It may also reveal something you’ve unconsciously noticed that may cause a domestic accident. So pay close attention to what is causing the accident in your dream.
Did someone fall down the stairs? If so, then this could mean you have loose carpeting or a nail protruding on your staircase.
Dreams of accidents in the home could also signify you are in need of personal change. Sometimes this could mean the destruction of what you’ve built for so many years.
Dreaming of Accidents to Your Loved Ones
Now this is a hard one to recognize, but if you dream that someone you love or are close to dies, this could mean something within is no longer functioning properly. It could also be symbolic of your relationship with that particular person. Have you been fighting, or growing apart?
Maybe it’s time to let go of certain aspects of your relationship with that person and move on to other steps like replacing passion with more attention on love, stability and commitment.
Dreams of Accidents Taking Place at Sea
Are you having problems with someone you are close to? Or maybe a disappointing love life. Then you may have a dream about an accident that takes place at sea.
If water is overwhelming you, then it’s possible you are overwhelmed by emotions. If you find this to be true, then it may be time to take a look at your feelings and put them into better context.
Trying to save others from a ship wreck means you need to take a good look at the ones you’re trying to save in this dream. A step back if you will to determine what exactly these people mean to your life.
For instance if you’re trying to rescue a baby or small child in your dreams, then this could be a sign that you need to develop a certain aspect of you life better. Such as unconditional love or maybe excitement. Dealing with these things may help you cope with your emotional responses better in your waking life.
Dreaming of Someone Else Being in an Accident
This type of dream I kind of relate to pent-up aggression towards an individual. The individual may also be symbolic of a certain aspect of your own personality that you are trying to cope with. But on the flip side, this could also signify that you’re having anxiety about the persons welfare in your dream.
Dream Meanings of a Car Crash
This is probably a very popular one, as I’ve heard many people having dreams like this. Dreams of car crashes are very common when dealing with your tensions about trying to get somewhere in life, or trying to accomplish your goals.
Maybe you are driving yourself a little too hard, or maybe you’re just a little too eager to get to the top.
Is the car in your dream suddenly spinning out of control and then crashing into a group of people? Then you may want to have your brakes checked or possibly your steering.
Or maybe your unconscious mind is trying to alert you to how recklessly you are living your life. Could it be that you are dangerously losing control of certain aspects of your life? Maybe you’re heading to a dead end because you’ve been living in the fast lane. Take note of who is hit during this dream so you’ll know who is going to be affected by your actions.
Dreams Involving a Plane Crash
Usually if you’re worried about over extending yourself, then you may encounter a dream involving a plane crash. This may have something to do with a certain project or maybe something at work. Even something like not being able to pay your bills can cause this sort of dream.
It’s also been common to have these sort of dreams if you’re worried about failing at something, maybe an exam at school, or a specific task or project you’ve taken on at work.
Train Crash Dreams
This kind of dream usually signifies you need to practice extreme caution where financial matters are concerned. It may also represent a stumbling block in your path if you’ve created an exaggerated sense of self-worth.
Dream Meanings of Minor Accidents
Dreaming of Something Falling from Above
If you see something in your dream hanging over you about to fall, this may imply a situation of possible danger to come. If the object actually falls and misses you, then maybe you’ve had a narrow escape from something in your life. If not, then maybe your unconscious mind is giving you a warning to be on the look out for potential danger.
Dreams of Breaking Things
Have you ever had a dream where you were breaking things? Maybe a window or a piece of furniture? This could indicate that there will be changes in your life coming soon. It may also mean that you want to change the direction your life is heading. So if your dream involves a car crash and you breaking things, then pay close attention to this concept.
If you are simply dropping or smashing things in your dream, this may mean you need to let go of something. Either a project, relationship or maybe even an idea you have.
The significance of what is actually being dropped or broken may help you discover what you’re trying to tell yourself.
If none of these scenarios apply to you, then maybe you are experiencing regret for something you let slip through your fingers.
Dreaming of Burning Things
Accidentally setting something on fire could suggest intense emotions or passionate feelings at play. This could also suggest that you are in desperate need of taking some time off to relax. Maybe you are due for a vacation.
Getting Cut in Your Dreams
Have you ever had a dream that you received a cut, this could suggest you’ve been let down or undervalued for something. If the cuts appear on your legs, then there is an imbalance or an inability to stand up for yourself.
If you are actually cutting yourself in your dream, then you are probably experiencing some overwhelming turmoil or issues in life. This is your unconscious mind trying to disassociate yourself from your discomfort or pain.
Dreams of Farting or Burping in Public
I know this all sounds funny, but it’s a very serious matter indeed. If you’ve accidentally farted or burped in public, then you’ve probably been passive-aggressive. This could mean you need to express your emotions in a more direct manner.
To Slip, Trip or Stumble in Your Dreams
If in your dream you’ve slipped of made a slip of the tongue, then maybe you’ve been doing thing that you really didn’t want to do, or possibly saying things that you didn’t mean.
If you’ve stumbled but didn’t fall, then you may have obstacles coming up in your life that you will conquer. If you actually do fall, then there are probably obstacles coming up that you will need to find a way around.
If you’re slipping or trying to traverse uphill to no avail, then you may of taken on more than you can handle and you’re in danger of falling back.
To trip or stumble in your dreams could mean something is out of control in your life. Something you need to deal with. Maybe things are not going as smoothly as you would like and you’re faced with some small obstacles. This could also indicate that your self esteem needs a boost.
Well I’m sorry this was such a long post, but I tried to compile it in as few of words as possible. But there are just so many great scenarios to cover for dream meanings and I wanted to try and give you as many examples as I could. So I hope you will be able to apply some of these to your own dreams and maybe help get a little more understanding of what you’re dreaming about.
Next week we will cover Action/Adventure dream meanings, but I feel we got a pretty good start on the series. If you’ve missed any of the previous posts on Dreams then you can find by clicking here –> Dreams Series
Thank you Robert. Your interpretation does make sense in my context; in fact you are a lot lot accurate as I am not sharing a lot of details due to obvious reasons. This week I did something at work, with best of intentions, which put a lot of my team members in trouble. Despite what has happened, my boss realizes that the next couple of days will be really tough for me at workplace yet she wants me to stick on with the team as she feels that I have the potential to contribute to the team in the long run. However, I was just beginning to think if I was doing the right thing by continuing with my present team, as I felt we do not have shared values, and thus this would also mean I would have to curb those things that make me unique and genuine. While deep inside I know leaving this team is best for me and the team, I also feel that executing this decision would also hurt my boss who has invested quite a bit of faith in me.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us Talon. I’m glad my interpretation has helped you to realize the application to your life and which path is best.
I feel you will make the best decision, you seem like an intelligent person, but at the same time you will take the path that will allow you to remain true to yourself. I wish you the best of luck with your situation. As we usually discover in life, some decisions we make that do not seem right in the short term, will normally wind up being best in the long run, we must pay attention to what our instincts are telling us.
Best Regards,
Robert Tuttle
Good morning Robert, This morning I had a dream. Please help, as this dream has really affected me. I have been trying to interpret my dream, but not having much luck.
My family and I are in my husband’s car – He is Driving (I thought we were going to my daughters dancing lesson as we do every Friday)
My husband decided to take a short cut through the green wet lands, I am not happy, but it becomes better once the grass gets shorter, everything around is green and lovely. We are driving along park trails through the trees, going past families sitting around, looking for a way out to the main road. I can see a road up ahead, I am no longer in the car, seemingly following my husband and the kids in my own car but they are way up ahead. I can see an upcoming bus travelling towards them very fast and sliding out of control. I feel angry that I think my husband pulled out in front of a speeding bus. Car crash – bus hits the back of the vehicle. The driver’s side appears to be fine; I am worried about the kids. I am at a crash site; people everywhere but no one appears to be hurt, I know my husband is fine, I see my eldest child as a one year old being carried by someone else. Cannot see my youngest daughter, I am upset I feel that I need to be hysterically crying and I think I do.
Kind regards
Hi Linda, and thank you for sharing your dream with us.
Before I go further, just remember that this is simply my interpretation of the events that happened in your dream. I do not know you personally so it is hard for me to make an exact assumption as to what this dream may mean. That being said, let’s move on to the interpretation as I see it.
It sounds to me that you and your husband may be struggling in disagreement on a specific decision. Possibly a major decision that could potentially effect your entire family.
On your husbands side, he may possibly have a quick solution and makes it sound very lush and desirable. But it seems to me that deep inside, you know that his method is not the best solution for the family.
You separated yourself during the dream to represent your difference of opinion and ultimately it seems that your husbands decision will ultimately be the final word, even though you know it may be harmful to your family’s well being.
I would suggest standing firm on your beliefs and try to make an educated decision together that will be best for the entire family. Just because a man is head of the house hold, doesn’t mean that other family members thoughts are not of equal importance.
I hope this helps in some way, and again, this is merely how I interpret your dream. Only you truly know how all these events may tie into your life and family. I wish you the best of luck moving forward.
Thank you so much Robert!!! Will see where life takes us!
Now that I received your reply I have a feeling that this could be a dream from a past situation that is still affecting me and is always on my mind! My husband made a very unwise investment before the GFC which ended in great financial losses (at the time it seemed very promising). I was very opposed to this investment which caused me stress and heartache and I am still very bitter about it. Not too sure but this could be the reason for me seeing my child as a one year old and the other one is nowhere to be found.
Thanks again
Linda
That makes a lot of sense. I was a bit unsure about the difference in age of you child. But it indeed sounds like this could be a dream from residual emotions that your unconscious mind continues to file and organize in hopes that it will make better sense to you. As I’m sure you already know, once you’ve allowed yourself to leave the past behind you and move forward, you will more than likely not have anymore dreams like this. Thanks again for stopping by Linda!
very useful information. thanks a lot for this.
You’re welcome Sachin, thanks for dropping by…
Last night I had a dream that disconcerted me. At times I have predictive dreams and dreams of warnings which for me were always snakes. If the snake bit me I was affected emotionally. This dream my husband was driving a van and we were happily going out somewhere. All of a sudden he was driving too fast going around a corner. For some reason i was laying on my stomach in my seat and I knew he was going to go through a fence on a yard. He did. I was alright as was he. We went across the road into my fathers old house and another man had occupancy. He saw us and then there were two childhood friends of my son and they talked about the man having depends. I asked them what they meant and they showed me a pair of what looked like a womans girdle but had a place for a penis. We were in my old bedroom. when we went back over the road I asked Richard to look and see if we had let some cows out and there were two black and white ones standing there. The van was big and real smashed in at the front. My son was in the back but barely visible throughout the dream
Kristine, thank you so much for sharing your dream experience with us.
I have to start off in saying this is an extremely complex dream you’ve had. There are many different symbols that have appeared here which makes for a very difficult interpretation. I don’t know for certain that you are asking for an interpretation as I see it, but I hope it’s ok if I put my 2 cents in on this one.
As I’ve told others before, not knowing the person or things occurring in their daily lives make it especially difficult to translate dreams, but….
From what you’ve told me here, I’m leaning toward the fact that you and your husband may be having some difference of opinion that deals with the roles of a man and woman in your relationship. Either you are taking on more of a manly role in the household, or maybe the other way around. Your husband may be taking on some of the household duties of the wife. I know this sounds a bit strange, and forgive me if I’m way off, but that’s just how I interpret the dream.
As far as the wreck is concerned, it would appear that your husband is rushing things a bit, not to a dangerous level that would hurt any of the family members, but you may be afraid y’all will be blind sided with the unexpected.
The former explanation of role reversals may help explain the depends and girdle made for a man. Now these role reversals could be anything, only you will understand this, but I’m suspecting that since you were in the bedroom this may be helpful insight for you.
Lastly, cows are specific to the female aspect of a person’s nature. Simply put, the desire to put others needs before your own. They may also symbolize motherliness, receptiveness and a nurturing energy that may lead or direct your masculine energy. But most importantly, a cow being present, and this differs from bulls, in that you may feel taken advantage of by someone.
Considering that the girdle built for a man and the cows both appeared in the same dream have helped lead me to this conclusion.
It may also be helpful to know that your son may not be receiving the attention or recognition he feels is deserved, which would explain why he’s visible but not standing out.
I hope this helps give you somewhere to start in interpreting your dream. And again, I apologize if I’m way off on this.
Wishing you the best….Robert
Dear Robert –
You are so on the mark! Even about the son. I am so impressed. I work in the spiritual myself and the way you have done that blew my brain. Hubby is taking the female roles and I have had to take on the male role which I resent. Son is not performing and had a mental breakdown that affected us all and from you have said I believe his inaction and apathy may be triggered by the old childhood friend who treated him harshly. My other son was murdered some years ago. I am actually wondering now with what you have said if my son felt barely visible at school because of the young boy who was in the dream he was with and that is triggering the anxiety and apathy he has today.
I only stumbled on your website today and was astounded at what I read. Thank you Robert you sure know your stuff!
Kristine,
Thank you so much for replying to let me know if my interpretation was helpful. I always fear I may offend someone with my dream readings, I just call it like I see it.
I am terribly sad to hear of the loss of your son, something like that can have a great toll on siblings, but we have to remember that when our loved ones pass, they are only gone from this world, we will all meet again. 🙂
I hope you will visit the blog often and continue to share your thoughts.
Best Regards,
Robert
Hello Robert,
I usually look things up after I dream in a book I have. One dream I was just wondering if you could help me out with the part where my mom used her car with no wheels to go down a hill with my son inside after my stepdad told her not to. My son flew out tumbled and his face smacked a tree I ran down the hill and I grabbed my mom’s hand as she ran and pulled her behind me out of my way.
Ashley, I’m not 100% sure on this one, but it sounds to me like you may be having a conflict dealing with the your mother. Could it be possible that she believes you should be raising your son one way, but you choose to do it another way. It seems that maybe your step dad is an innocent party in all this and is trying to keep the peace between you two. But maybe inside you believe your moms advice is somehow going to be harmful for your sons well being. Forgive me if this is incorrect, it is just how I interpret your dream.
Hi Robert,
very interesting blog…i had a dream last night of the car i am currently in process of doing safety for registering in my name.
So the care was a a car shop and the car moved and noone was in the car and it crushed and was damaged severely. And i was so hurt and i started crying and thinking of how to start as i have no money at the money to repair and have a way to go to work. I was so happy to realise that it was a dream. Another thing is that my left eye has been twitch from the bottom for a week. And i was told it a sign of bad luck or that i am going to cry.. and its been stressing me all day.
Oh Tabi I know exactly what you’re talking about with the twitching eye. I’ve had that before and it drives me crazy. But from what I understand that is a sign of stress. Or may also be side effects from straining the eyes. Do you use a computer all day like at work? It’s something that’s been known to happen to video game gurus too, staring at the monitor for long periods at a time.
Hi Robert, need help with a dream interpretation. I dreamt of one of my very old (not close) colleague die in a car accident. Somehow people on the road called me and I took my colleague to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. There was a lot if trauma to the head. Later I had to bury him but my folks wanted to see the grave and they were insisting somehow I managed to slip. Later I caught up with my friends and my dead colleague was lying on the backside of my car. I wanted to bury him but then saw him move is hand. I wanted to take him to a hospital but was concerned about how will I pay the bill. This dream made me sweat as I woke up around 4. What does this mean please help
Hello Rishi, thank you for posting your dream.
I will do my best to help you with an interpretation, as you know what I tell you here is only my gut instinct on how I understand your dream. This information may not be accurate and I apologize if it is incorrect or offensive in any way.
Your dream suggests to me it involves someone that you feel is in need of help. This could be any sort of help either financially, emotional support or some sort of intervention.
It sounds that you may of attempted to help this person in the past but they weren’t ready to accept your help. Maybe you have given up on trying to help this person which would be symbolic of you burying your colleague.
It seems that you still believe this person is in need of your help but you don’t want to disrupt your own life by doing so. It really sounds like an intense conflict from within yourself questioning of what the right thing to do is.
I certainly hope this interpretation helps, just always remember that it’s a great thing to help your fellow man, but if your destroy your own life in doing so, then all you’ve done is create two people in need of help. 🙂
Hello Robert,
I’m hoping you could give me some insight on a dream I just had. I was driving somewhere (can’t remember where I was going) and my husband was with me, but in the passenger seat. A red sports car (resembling a Thunderbird) came racing past me on my left hand side and eventually cut in front of me. I could tell traffic was backing up and cars were starting to brake, but for some reason it didn’t register to me that I needed to brake until the last minute. I ended up rear ending the red car that cut in front of me, but it was so minor that the driver in the red car didn’t even notice that i hit their car so we both resumed driving as if nothing happened. At first I thought there was no damage because of how slight i hit the car. However, right after the incident, traffic started to clear up and when I took off, I noticed that the hood of my SUV was damaged worse than expected (there was no damage to the red sports car). Moments later, I noticed the the red sports car that I had rear ended, was now driving wrecklessly (speeding and cutting in and out of traffic) and then the driver caused a three car accident that I wasn’t involved in. My husband and I ended up reaching our destination safely. Once we reached our destination, we assess the damage and started discussing how I was going to gather the money to pay my insurance deductible to file the claim. My husband called me right at that moment and woke me up from the dream.
I am currently working hard to start a small business, but I’m not sure if my dream is really telling me to slow down or warn me of a potential accident. I have been getting signs telling me that I need to keep going and stay motivated to start this business, so it’s kind of weird to dream something that contradicts that. I apologize for the lengthy story. I appreciate any interpretation you can provide 🙂
Hi Jssca129 and thank you for sharing your dream with us. As I do with everyone that asks me to attempt an interpretation for them, I do not guarantee that my interpretation will be accurate it is merely what my intuition tells me upon reading your comment. So if I’m wrong or you don’t agree, please forgive me, it’s only what I feel inside at my first gut instinct.
All that mumbo jumbo being said, let me tell you what I feel from your dream summary.
Generally speaking I believe the red sports car is quite significant here. The color red usually is associated with either rage, or passion. So my first thought when reading your dream was that it was centered around an act of passion and possibly betrayal. I’m so very sorry if this offends you in some way, but it’s again just the message I received. It would appear that there is either an act of betrayal between you and your husband or some sort of argument.
It is also possible that this conflict involves a third party that may be a wedge, or was once a wedge between you two. It would appear that this was maybe something that happened in the past and you have both sense recovered and are doing fine, but there still is some pent up anger between you.
But seeing how it was you that had to pay the deductible suggests to me that you could of been the one doing the wrong and you may be experiencing unconscious guilt.
I hope this interpretation is helpful and I don’t suspect your dream is concerning your business success, but I am human and most certainly could be wrong here. But I truly believe if you dig down deep and assess the things going on in your life you’ll find that you already have the answers to continue life happily and with prosperity.
Thank you so much for responding! I think you are correct in your interpretation. Deep down, I have been upset because my husband purchased a motorcycle and I feel as though the money spent could have been used towards something else. Maybe it could be related to that. 🙂
Thank you Jssca129 for leaving feedback on the interpretation. It seems more logical that what you are describing is more likely the reason your dream occurred. I wish you the best in your business venture and all good things in life. 😀
I had 2 dream in a row about seeing a car crash. In both dreams I wasn’t involved and wasn’t hurt but was very scared. What could this mean?
Kind of hard to say Candace without more details of your dream. But car crashes can mean a great deal of things. They may be significant of the place in which they took place or possibly the people that were involved in the crashes. It’s usually quite hard to keep track and remember most of the details in a dream, but it’s very important to take note of such things upon first waking up.
I had a dream that I found out my father had cancer and that blood was coming out of his eyes a friend told me about it in my dream, I remember not being able to catch my breath fast enough, I was angry at my friend and went straight to the Hospital to see my dad, then the next part of my dream was very scary I was at my fathers house and my oldest daughter of 4yrs old was walking accross the street and almost getting hit by the car, the neighbors who almost hit her I appologized and then then walked into my father’s house, I had my yougest baby who is 2yrs but she was still s little baby and I slipped on some mud and she fell straight down off the balcony and landed in the mud face first I yelled for my brother s I told them I had dropped breanna, they were yelling for my dad I got down to where she was her leg moved I yelled she’s ok but when I turned her over her eye socket was pushed in and blood was coming out of her eyes and mouth I layed down on the mud with her on my stomach and yelled for my father he came out and turned on the water hose and I kept yelling it’s all my fault while her head was next to my ear. Then I woke up very disturbed.
Wow, that is a very intense dream. There definitely seems to be some significance with the eye reference as it came up twice during your dream.
Sometimes you can recognize things like the fact your daughter was still a little baby and it can help you figure out a timeline as to what this dream may be referencing.
I really appreciate you sharing with us, is this a dream you have regularly or was it just that one time?
