Well folks, I’ve decided to go on a diet. I actually started my diet last Friday, but it hasn’t been as bad as I thought it was going to be. Actually I’ve compiled a detailed plan of action to help keep me on track so maybe I can succeed this time!

Most everyone at some time in their life will either cut back a bit or maybe go on an all out diet. But we all know how hard and frustrating that can be. To keep yourself loyal and on track is harder than you may think.

I know others will disagree with this, but I’m managing my diet by counting calories. Nutritionists will tell you this isn’t at all what you need to do, that it’s mainly all about what you eat, not how much. I’ve found that to be accurate to a certain extent, but what works for one, may not work for everyone.

I went to the store and got me a bunch of those diet microwave dinners and let me tell you, some of those things are pretty awesome! They have really come a long way since they first started making them. Plus they have every kind of dish you can imagine. The best part about those pre-packaged meals is that all the calories and fat etc. has all be portioned by a dietician. So it makes it super easy to just pop one in the microwave and in a few minutes you’re eating a perfect low calorie meal.

This makes things especially easy for me because I work all day. When I finally get home for lunch I don’t have a whole lot of time to get something ready to eat. If you’re trying to diet it takes a little extra time and care to put together a meal too. So these “box” lunches have been a life saver.

Anyway, so far I’ve managed to lose 5 pounds in just a few days. All I’ve done is change my eating habits. I now eat around 300 calories for breakfast. Which consists of a low calorie breakfast sandwich and half an apple. Sometimes I may have a couple of poached eggs and a piece of toast. Then for lunch I eat one of my frozen diet dinners. Then around 3 or 4 o’clock in the afternoon I may eat either another apple, or a nutri-grain fruit bar (only 120 calories). Then we’ll have a sensible dinner around 6 pm. Normally some fish or chicken with half a baked potato with nothing on it and some mixed veggies. Or we may have a small 4 oz piece of either pork or hamburger steak instead of the fish or chicken.

But anyway this may not be the perfect diet in some folks eyes, but it’s sure working for me as of right now. When it warms up a bit I plan on doing some evening walking to help burn some fat. But I don’t have a whole bunch of weight to lose, but I do need to get a bit off, so wish me luck folks and I’ll try to keep you posted in this thread as I progress.

There’s actually a brand new book out called The 100 Calorie Diet that looks very cool. It comes with several bonus books like a low calorie cookbook, a journal and a couple of food counter books. It’s a pretty good price on it, so I’ll probably give that a look see. I don’t know a whole lot about this dieting stuff, so any help I can get is cool with me.

Sorry to bore you with all this personal stuff, but now let’s get to the interesting and unusual food facts, 15 of them to be exact.

  1. My wife would tell you how microwaved food has had all its nutrients destroyed. I’ll just tell you that my wife and I lost 20+ lbs in about a month by cutting out grains and sugar and eating a ton of veggies. What we were following is the Overeaters Anonymous diet, or HOW diet. After the first month we added back grains and we’re not following it anymore but we sure did drop the pounds quick!!!

    1. I’ve read about that. They say that counting calories is not the best way to diet. That it isn’t the calories you eat, but what you eat.

By cutting grains it cuts sugars as well right? This would probably be a good strategy to add with my low calorie diet. Thanks for the heads up.

      1. its about something called the GI glycemic index? not eating stuff that turns into sugar…

  2. Very good article. You hit some key points that dieters these days struggle with, it’s actually not easy sticking to a diet. I myself have been there and done that with diets in short. They simply did not work for me, due to the fact that most are temporary. Diets usually only last a couple months, and then its over. Your body cannot stay on a diet all the time, or you’d develop all kinds of health issues. My point being that diets can work for a period of time, but over the long run they don’t work so well. What’s worked for me is building a diet/exercise plan for life. If you eat right (lots of veggies, plain meats, whole grains, fiber, etc…) in combination with exercising (cardio, strength, aerobic, yoga, etc…), you’ll not only keep weight off but maintain a healthy lifestyle in the process. I don’t look at that as a diet, but a lifestyle really. That’s just my two cents though. 🙂

    1. You make some excellent points. It is much easier to lose weight than it is to keep it off, that’s for sure! Devising a life plan as far as diet and exercise is a must in maintaining your weight once you’ve reached your goal. That is something I will try to focus on right now and hopefully by the time I reach my goal weight I will have my daily eating habits under control. Thanks for the input, very helpful!

    2. Dieting is all about the mind rather than the body! …. Have the will power and perseverance and the effects are always positive!

BTW it is “healthy” diet that is important! Dieting is normally confused with reduced intake of food (maybe to some extent this is fine) or not eating appropriately!

Consult a dietitian before you decide to diet!

      1. That’s very true Rummy. I believe that it’s all about what you eat, not how much of it. When I looked at the calorie count for a few items, such as 1 cheese enchilada has over 400 calories. Just think about a mexican plate with 2 enchiladas, taco, rice and beans. It’s no wonder I needed to go on a diet! lol

  3. Interesting post! This is definitely helpful to me who is planning to go for a healthy diet to lose weight! i shall try this out:)

Anw thanks for sharing! Keep up with the good effort!

    Regards,
    Joseph

    1. Thank you Joseph, Dieting is a hard thing to stay loyal with. I’m certainly trying my hardest.

On a similar note, I wish you all the success in your diet venture. If nothing else we’ll wind up a bit more healthy afterwards.
