How to Use Electronic Cigarettes to Quit Smoking

Since the invention of electronic cigarettes, there has been much debate over whether or not these devices can actually be used to help people quit smoking altogether. While the eCigs do contain nicotine, an addictive substance, they do not contain the hundreds of other harmful chemicals that can be found in normal tobacco cigarettes. Fundamentally, these electronic substitutes are a healthier and safer alternative, but can they help individuals abandon the habit completely?
 
A great way to answer this question is to examine the current products that are specifically designed for smoking cessation. These include patches, gums, and pills that satisfy nicotine cravings while smokers are getting over their addiction. The idea is that the individual will gradually lower the nicotine doses until they can completely relinquish their dependence on the products.
 
However, most of us probably know at least one smoker who has tried to quit smoking using these types of products and failed. One of the primary reasons these methods do not work is because smoking cigarettes become part of a routine and a habit that is hard to break. Smokers get used to having a cigarette after a meal or at a certain time of day for example. Electronic cigarettes are just the product that may be able to address this issue.
 
Electronic cigarettes work very similarly to the patches or gums because they allow the users to receive nicotine without smoking actual cigarettes. However, they also provide the feeling and actions of smoking that the users have grown accustomed to. The smokers inhale from the vaporizer as they would a normal cigarette and the tip of the electronic cigarette even lights up as if it were real, giving the smoker the sensations and the nicotine that they crave without the many other harmful ingredients that tobacco cigarettes contain.
 
ECigarettes are often harshly judged because it is more difficult for the consumer to judge how much nicotine they are inhaling when using the devices. However, there are cartridges available with different concentrations of nicotine. Therefore, even though smokers may not know exactly how much nicotine is being ingested with every drag, they can reduce their dependency by gradually moving from higher concentrations to lower concentrations, and using the eCigs less frequently. Like when using any smoking cessation product, this process does require self-control on the part of the individual, but many people have found quitting tobacco cigarettes much more possible and enjoyable when they have the support of eCigarettes.

  2. It is interesting how the habit is more addictive than the nicotine. I am trying a free e-cig sample from http://www.vapeclub.co.uk/ and am trying to get used to it. So far so good. Wonder what are the etiquette rules are though? Apparently, legally you smoke/vape these as work and in public places. Definitely worth smoking if you do it a lot.

    1. Yah, lol, seems kind of strange that someone would be sitting in a restaurant puffing away on one of those things. Seems like it would be a bit rude even though they don’t smell.
