I love to research and share strange, unusual tidbits with people. I can’t get enough of all the weird legends out there! For those of you who don’t know, The Abominable Snowman and Bigfoot are two creatures that have always fascinated me. If you are not familiar with who or what the creatures are, then don’t worry…just keep reading and you’ll be educated soon enough!

Who is the Abominable Snowman

The Abominable Snowman may not be what meets the eye. To some, he is a hairy, upright beast that reaches heights of 7 feet tall to others he is Sasquatch which was coined in North America by a Canadian newspaper editor based on Native American legends and reports from hunters. But there are other clans roaming the Tibetan-Himalayan area that have yet to be identified or seen as well. Basically the Abominable Snowman is a snow roaming version of the North American Sasquatch.

Another popular name for the Abominable Snowman is Yeti, and supposedly they’ve appeared in many different sizes. Ranging from small, large and extra-large in size. But according to witnesses of this beastly monstrosity, the larger variety are the ones most closely related to Bigfoot. I believe in the Everglades they call him the Skunk Ape as well.

Although the Chinese ape-man bears a strong resemblance, there seems to be many variations of these creatures. Is it possible these may all be geographically different races to one single species? Or possibly there are several different types that have absolutely nothing in common with one another. Set aside them walking in an upright position and bearing lots and lots of hair.

Is the Abominable Snowman an Endangered Species?

In 2014, a group of activists petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to put Bigfoot on the endangered list, fearing that they would be hunted down for study purposes. The activists are not alone in this sentiment; there is even an organization called “Save-the-Bigfoot” that wants to protect these mythical creatures from being killed off by humans. But according to John Green, a well-known bigfoot hunter, “There is not the slightest possibility that Sasquatches can be considered human or near-human, neither are they an endangered species…”

According to Green there are tons of these creatures roaming about the wilderness. He believes them to be a gentle creature, that would do no harm to man. They’ve simply been monsterized by folks that can’t imagine them being a normal part of the animal kingdom.

Himalayan Hunters and the Yeti

According to the Sherpas of Himalayans, humans have grossly sensationalized and given the Abominable Snowman a bad rap. The Yeti has been part of their culture for at least 200 years and they share the same land with them. These Abominable creatures are often mistaken for a variety of elusive animals that live deep in the Himalayan Mountains. So it is hard to say how many of them exist, but there are constantly new sightings being reported yearly.

Supposedly, the Abominable Snowman lives deep in the Himalayan forests, not among the snow zones as previously thought. Eye witness accounts have pointed out that the Yeti is known for moving about on all fours and is capable of swinging from tree to tree. Mountaineers may only catch a quick glimpse of them or spot some of their tracks at times when they have ventured closely to the snow regions. But upon being spotted, it’s said they will rise up and walk upright in order to scare off any danger that is presented.

The American Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot

The American Sasquatch is said to be a lot more curious than its Asian counterpart, but does live a very reclusive lifestyle all the same.

Living in the United States myself, I hear many stories related to this area of people having encounters with Sasquatch (Bigfoot) which is said to be a distant cousin to the Yeti or Abominable Snowman. But the stories are much more dramatic.

Most eyewitness accounts within the U.S. are terrifying tales consisting of people having things thrown at them or even being physically attacked! Once again this could all be sensationalized propaganda to gain attention by some, but normally where there is a myth or legend, there is also some truth.

If you want to read about some of these encounters then check out my post The Texas Sasquatch. These horrific tales are very intense. I know I’d be shaking in my boots if some of these things happened to me!

According to researchers here in the United States, the Sasquatch is supposed to give off a disgustingly foul odor and has a very loud and terrible sounding howl. If I were to smell something like that or hear a monster yelling at me, I would be heading straight for the car and be on my way home!

What Have we Learned about these Creatures?

So, you might be wondering what we think about all this. Are these creatures real or just some fantasy story that gets blown out of proportion? I can’t say for sure if they’re real. But if they are, then why have we never found any bones, grave sites, signs of feeding or excrement like you would expect to see from a woodland creature?

Do you think they have the intellect to actually be burying their dead? Are they experts at covering their tracks? Some Native American tribes suggest they have super natural or even mystical powers that cause them to become invisible to humans.

One thing I’ve learned for sure is that Mother Nature is constantly presenting us with new fascinating species all the time. So if one day there is solid evidence that these creatures do actually exist…needless to say I wouldn’t be all that shocked.
