Odd Random Thoughts is a place for the strange, the unexplained, and the questions you didn’t know you wanted answered.
I’m Robert. I started this site back in 2012 with a simple habit: when a strange question gets stuck in my head, I go and find out what’s actually true about it. That habit hasn’t worn off. If anything, it’s gotten worse.
Some of what you’ll find here is folklore and legend, the kind of stories that get told and retold until nobody remembers where they started. Some of it is real science, the odd corners of the world that turn out to be stranger than the stories. And some of it sits in between, where the facts run out and the guessing begins.
Everything here is researched and checked before it goes up, and the sources that matter get named. Where the record is unclear, I’ll say so. Where the experts don’t agree, I’ll tell you they don’t agree rather than pretend the question is settled. And when a popular claim turns out to be false, I’d rather say so than repeat it, even when the false version is the more fun one.
It isn’t a news site, and it isn’t trying to sell you anything. It’s just an ongoing attempt to chase down odd questions and write up what I find.
